Vocational grammar school (three-year postgraduate programme) - Apply for admission

The three-year advanced vocational grammar school is a full-time school that builds on an intermediate school leaving certificate. It comprises three school years and leads to a general, nationally recognised higher education entrance qualification.

The programmes on offer in Baden-Württemberg include a variety of options (depending on the local offer):

  • agricultural science
  • biotechnological
  • nutritional science
  • social and health sciences (specialising in health and social affairs)
  • technical (specialising in mechatronics, design and media technology, information technology, technology and management, environmental technology)
  • economics (specialising in economics, international business and financial management)

Prerequisite

Requirements for admission to the entrance class:

  • Grade point average of at least 3.0 at
    • Secondary school leaving certificate
    • or an educational level equivalent to the Realschulabschluss acquired at the end of grade 10 of the Hauptschule (Werkrealschule)
    • or the technical college entrance qualification
    • The grade point average of 3.0 is made up of the following subjects, in which you must have achieved at least a sufficient grade:
    • German
    • Mathematics and
    • the first compulsory foreign language (English or French) that you will continue at the host vocational grammar school
  • or promotion certificate to grade 10 or grade 11 of a grammar school of the eight-year programme
  • or a certificate of promotion to grade 11 of a grammar school of the nine-year programme
  • or the promotion certificate from a comprehensive school at the end of year 10 to a grammar school.

In addition, you must not yet be 19 years old at the start of the school year or 22 years old if you have completed vocational training. The school management may make exceptions to this rule in special circumstances.

Procedure

The application process at public vocational schools is carried out online via the BewO portal. You must print out the application form created by BewO.

If more applicants fulfil the admission requirements at a school than there are places available, a selection procedure takes place.

Deadlines

Applications are possible until 1 March for the coming school year. Applications received after this date will be prioritised as soon as all applications submitted by the deadline have been processed and there are still places available.

  • Application for admission (printout at the end of the online application process Bewo)
  • Declaration contained in the BewO portal as to whether you have already taken part in an admission procedure at another grammar school / vocational college and, if so, which one.
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form with details of your previous educational background
  • Notarised copy of the certificate proving that you fulfil the admission requirements
    If the certificate is not yet available by the application deadline:
    • notarised copy of the last school report
      You must submit the copy of the required report immediately.
